The UMass Amherst Interdepartmental Program in Film Studies Presents the 14th Annual Massachusetts Multicultural Film Festival: Encuentros/Encounters: New Cinema of Latin America & Spain
(dir. Patricio Guzmán, Chile, 2004, 100 min, in Spanish w/English subtitles)
A masterful documentary of the life and vision of the first ever democratically elected Marxist president crafted by one of Chile’s greatest directors. With rare archival footage, Guzmán explores with complexity and political acumen a defining and tragic moment in Chilean history that has been described as “the other 9/11.”
Introduced by Sonia Alvarez, Dir. Center for Latin American, Caribbean & Latino Studies, UMass Amherst.
