University of Massachusetts Amherst

Faculty Senate Meeting

The UMass Faculty Senate is scheduled to vote on a handful of academic issues at its next meeting.

Among other things, the Senate plans to receive the annual reports of its Status of Minorities Council and University Writing Committee, to consider the adoption of 17 new courses, and to vote on proposed changes to the configuration of the University’s academic calendar. Traditionally, the spring semester has begun the last week of January and ended with undergraduate commencement in the fourth week of May. Under the new system, classes would begin the second week of January and commencement would move to the second week of May.
