Veteran's Day Vigil Closing Ceremony

The 2006 Veteran's Day Vigil will begin at 4:00 pm Tuesday, November 7, and continue through 4:30 pm on Wednesday, November 8, on the east side of Memorial Hall. The opening cermeony will be conducted by the UMass Amherst Air Force ROTC program.

All members of the local and campus communities are welcome to attend and pay tribute to the Veteran's of UMass Amherst, the local community, the Commonwealth and the nation in this student-run ceremony.

The closing ceremony will be run by the UMass Amherst Army ROTC program and will again involve a 21-Gun Salute. The ammunition is blank and designed for making a realistic sound effect while being safe. There will be three very quick volleys over a few seconds. This will take place at approximately 4:25 pm.

There will also be a special wreath-laying ceremony in honor of Lance Corporal Eric Valdepenas, a former UMass Amherst student who died in Iraq in September of this year. We hope you will join the campus community in honoring veterans on this special occasion.
