Jubilat/Jones Poetry Reading
The historic Jones Library and Jubilat, the nationally acclaimed literary journal housed at the University of Massachusetts, are pleased to continue the Jubilat/Jones Reading Series on Sunday, November 12th, with a reading by poets Keith Waldrop and Rosemary Waldrop. The reading will be followed by a Q & A session with the poets. All events are free & open to the public.
Rosemarie Waldrop has written over sixteen volumes of poetry, as well as two novels and several books of criticism. Born in Germany, she is a respected translator of French and German works. A coeditor and publisher of Burning Deck Press, Waldrop has received numerous awards for her work, including a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and the French Government’s designation as a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres.
Keith Waldrop, also a coeditor and publisher of Burning Deck Press, has written numerous books of poetry, the first of which was nominated for a National Book Award. He has been recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts for his excellent translations, among which is his recent translation of Charles Baudelaire’s Les Fleurs du mal. A professor at Brown University, Waldrop also directs their Graduate Writing Program.
Sponsored by the Friends of the Jones Library, jubilat, & the Juniper Initiative of the UMass MFA Program for Poets & Writers, the Series introduces new voices to the community & showcases area poets. Each reading features two poets, bringing into dynamic dialogue some of the most exciting established & emerging poets writing today. This program is also supported in part by a grant from the Amherst Cultural Council, a local agency, which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
