Visiting Artist: Gregory Crewdson
A screening of a short documentary film by Ben Shapiro about Gregory Crewdson, his art and his unique process. Following the film, Gregory Crewdson will have a question and answer session. This will be moderated by professor Susan Jahoda, but please feel free to bring a question with you to ask him.
Crewdson, a professor of photography at Yale University, has been exhibited in renowned international venues including the Guggenheim, the Whitney Museum of Art, and Mass MOCA. Inviting him to speak at the University of Massachusetts Amherst will provide our community an opportunity to have a personal interaction with an artist investigating the psychology and art of modern life. His critical look at contemporary society has the ability to bridge the gaps between a variety of academic studies including the fine arts, art history, theater, film, psychology, urban studies and sociology.
This event is sponsered by the Graduate Art Student Association, The University Gallery and the Fine Arts Center, the UMass Arts Council, the Student Affairs Cultural Enrichment Fund, the UMass Fine Arts Department, the Student Union Gallery and the UMass Photography Society.
