"Sea Cruise" An Exhibition of Recent Paintings by Jerry Kearns
"Sea Cruise" is a sabbatical exhibition of seven recent paintings by the artist Jerry Kearns, a professor in the Art Department at UMass Amherst.
Kearns has described the paintings in the following manner: "... The suggestion is of an assembled identity that renders relative the historical definitions of age, gender, race, etc. I wanted to suggest a world in transition where past definitions no longer seem to hold sway. While the resulting images have the spare crispness of advertising, they also recall the unusual associations of dream images. I am after a kind of familiar - unfamiliar, natural - unnatural, ordinary - bizarre reality... The aforementioned visual strategies are intended to suggest a world in transition. A world where the abnormal is normal, where the strange is ordinary, where the tranquil is laced with anxiety. That is the reality that I experience..."

Saturday: 1 PM - 4 PM
A reception will be held on Tuesday, October 10 from 4 to 6pm.

Directions & Parking
Herter Art Gallery is located at the north end of Herter Hall west of the Fine Arts Center. Public parking is available at all times behind the Robsham Vistors Center and at meters along Haigis Mall. Nights and weekends parking is also available in Lot #71 west of the Whitmore Administration Building.
