Annual Topol Lecture: Convergence and Control in an Internet World

Vint Cerf of MCI will present the Sidney Topol Distiguished Lecture in the Computer Science Department Distinguished Faculty Lecture Series.

It is often suggested that the convergence of the Internet and the Telephone voice service is inevitable and a kind of killer application. In fact, I believe that the real excitement is the embedding of many different media in an IP-enabled environment.

Vinton G. Cerf is senior vice president of Technology Strategy for MCI. In this role, Cerf is responsible for helping to guide corporate strategy development from the technical perspective.

The Sidney Topol Distinguished Lecturer Series was established through the generosity of Sidney Topol, University of Massachusetts Amherst Class of 1947, for whom the lecture series is named. Topol is widely regarded as a telecommunications pioneer who helped forge the cable-satellite connection that triggered the growth of cable television in the U.S.

Hosted by Professor W. Richards Adrion.

Refreshments at 3:30 p.m. in the atrium of the Computer Science Building.
