William E. Mahoney Annual Lecture in Chemistry

The Mahoney Seminar is generously sponsored by Mr. William E. Mahoney, a 1955 UMass alumnus, and features a speaker who has contributed significantly to the public’s understanding of science. This year’s speaker is Dr. Ioannis Miaoulis, the Director of the Boston Science Museum.

Dr. Miaoulis holds multiple degrees from Tufts University, including a bachelor’s and doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering and a master’s degree in Economics. He also holds a masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. His research has led to over 100 published papers and he holds two patents. He became director of the Boston Science Museum after a distinguished association with Tufts University where he held several prestigious positions such as Dean of the School of Engineering, Associate Provost, Interim Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and Professor of Mechanical Engineering. Dr. Miaoulis’ goal is to help to teach the public at large scientific and technological literacy. In joining the Science Museum, he brought with him the conviction that science museums can bring all people interested in science--in government, industry, and education--together to work toward the goal of a scientifically and technologically literate society

The title of Dr. Miaoulis's lecture is “Re-Engineering the Curriculum.” and His lecture is open to the public.
