Lecture: Beyond Dictators and Occupation: A Way Forward in Iraq
Samir Adil is co-founder and General Secretary of the Iraqi Freedom Congress, and will speak at the University of Massachusetts and First Churches Northampton. Organized by the American Friends Service Committee and the UMass Anti-War Coalition, the events are free, accessible, open to all, and are part of Adil’s AFSC-sponsored tour of the U.S. Eastern Seaboard which begins on May 1 in Philadelphia and ends on May 14 in Washington, D.C.
The purpose of the Iraqi Freedom Congress is to promote democracy and secularism in Iraq. This is a rare opportunity to hear directly from
an Iraqi about efforts to build nonviolent opposition to the US occupation and sectarian violence. The Iraqi Freedom Congress is dedicated to building harmony among all Iraqis, regardless of religious or ethnic identity. It is a people's movement -- based in the student, labor and human rights communities. The Congress is linked to the Federation of Workers Councils and Unions in Iraq, the organization of Women's Freedom in Iraq and the Union of the Unemployed
in Iraq.
Organized by the UMass Anti-War Coalition and the American Friends Service Committee.
