Class Tree Planting and Ice Cream Social

One component to the Senior Campaign is the planting of the class tree. The planting of the class tree is a time-honored tradition that dates back to 1967. Each year, Landscape Architecture professor Jack Ahern selects the location and species of tree, and members of the graduating class plant the tree.

When walking across campus, look carefully at the base of trees. You will see stone markers engraved with the year of the class that planted that particular tree. This year’s Senior Class will be planting an abies koreana, or Horstmann’s Silberlocke Korean Fir. Please meet your fellow seniors at the pond side of Memorial Hall at 1 p.m. that day to walk over together for the planting of your tree. An ice cream social will follow.
