What is The Next Chapter?
The Next Chapter is a comprehensive retirement planning program that has been presented by the MTRB since 1986 in order to help its members prepare for retirement. The popular all-day seminar features professionals who address many retirement issues, including:
Financial Planning: Establishing a budget, projecting retirement expenses, managing investments, and the effects of health and planning on finances.
Estate Planning: The importance of having an up-to-date will, understanding of estate taxes, information on various trusts and the selection of an attorney and an executor.
Social Security and Medicare: A general overview of Social Security benefits and Medicare as well as a detailed explanation of the Government Pension Offset and Windfall Elimination Provision that may affect certain MTRS members.
Transition to Retirement: The elements of a successful transition to retirement, such as preparing for your changing role, developing new networks, the effects of retirement on your personal relationships and planning fulfilling involvements and activities.
Your MTRS Benefits: Presented by MTRB staff, this session provides an overview of regular and RetirementPlus benefits, including estimating your retirement income, understanding your retirement options, the retirement application process and purchasing creditable service.
