Romeo and Juliet
Long before she had even cast her production of Romeo and Juliet, UMass Theater MFA graduate student Jeannie-Marie Brown knew that it would be seen by one thousand high school students and at least five hundred college students. Several college classes are incorporating the show into the curriculum, and there are two special matinees scheduled just for area schools.
“It needed to be connected to young audiences,” said Brown, who is directing the production as her thesis. The big question she faced was, “How do I create a world in which these weapons and this dialogue make sense?”
