Juniper Literary Festival: Celebrating the Work of John Ashbery
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the publication of Some Trees, the sixth annual Juniper Literary Festival celebrates and explores the work of renowned poet John Ashbery.
In addition to featuring a public interview with and reading by John Ashbery, the festival will present readings by five acclaimed younger poets, Christian Hawkey, Chris Edgar, Rachel Levitsky, Marcella Durand, and Ann Lauterbach. Public addresses on Ashbery's wide-ranging impact will feature Renaissance scholar and theorist Angus Fletcher on poetry and the environment; editor Eric Lorberer on the collaboration between Ashbery and architect Siah Armajani in constructing the Irene Hixon Whitney Bridge in Minneapolis; and poet/historian David Lehman on Ashbery's role in contemporary literary landscapes. A panel of editors will explore his impact on publishing, and a Council of Literary Magazines & Presses fair will fill Memorial Hall with literary magazines and books.
