First Annual Conference on Cellular Engineering

Cellular engineering is a rapidly emerging field of research with applications for human therapeutics, bioremediation, biomanufacturing, homeland security, and energy production that will have widespread implications for science and society over the coming years. This event is an outgrowth of the UMass Amherst Institute for Cellular Engineering, a multidisciplinary, interdepartmental research initiative focused on coordinating and expanding cellular engineering educational and scholarly activities on campus and enabling translational research through strategic industry partnerships. More than eighty campus researchers in life science, information science, and engineering departments are conducting investigations with the aim of understanding and ultimately harnessing the power of cellular 'machinery' in plants, animals, and microorgranisms.

The purpose of the Conference on Cellular Engineering is to create a forum for interdisciplinary discussions on the science and applications of cellular engineering and to facilitate collaboration among researchers in academe and industry.

Topics: Applied Systems Biology and Metabolic Engineering, Protein Engineering, Cell and Drug Delivery, Stem Cell Engineering, Cellular Engineering-An Industry Perspective.
