Williamson Lecture: God, Design, and Darwin - Evolution and the Battle for America's Soul
Kenneth R. Miller, Professor of Biology, Brown University, and one of the leading opponents of the intelligent design movement will give the 6th annual Kathryn and Paul Williamson Commonwealth College Lecture on "God, Design, and Darwin: Evolution and the Battle for America's Soul."
Professor Miller, who is the co-author of one of the leading high school biology textbooks in the country, is particularly well-known for his defense of evolution in the evolution-intelligent design debate. He has appeared as an expert witness in court cases and has frequently debated proponents of intelligent design. A practicing Roman Catholic, Dr. Miller has written a book entitled "Finding Darwin's God: A Scientist's Search for Common Ground between God and Evolution," the paperback edition of which is currently in its 23rd printing. In this book he attempts to explain how a belief in God and evolution are not mutually exclusive. In constant demand as a speaker about the evolution-intelligent design debate, in the last two years he has given or currently is scheduled to give more than 50 invited talks on this topic. Recently, he was the lead expert witness for the evolution side in the federal court case brought against the Dover, Pennsylvania school board that had mandated the incorporation of intelligent design into the school curriculum.
