900 Voices Strong: Verdi's Requiem
UMass Amherst choirs with Springfield Symphony Choir and other area choirs.
Eleven choral groups from the Five Colleges will travel to Springfield for a special afternoon performance with the
Springfield Symphony Orchestra at the MassMutual Center.
Under the direction of Maestro Kevin Rhodes, the orchestra will present a program featuring Giuseppe Verdi's “Requiem,” to be sung by nearly 900 voices, including 500 from the Five College choruses as well as choristers from Cornell University and from Worcester.
The soloists for this performance are: Priscilla Baskerville (soprano), Margaret Yauger (mezzo-soprano), Eric Ashcroft (tenor) and Malcolm Smith (bass).
The Five College choral groups who will be taking part include:
Women's Chorus, Men's Glee Club, and Concert Choir of Amherst College
Hampshire College Chorus
Glee Club and Chorale of Mount Holyoke College
Glee Club and Chorus of Smith College
Chorale, Chamber Choir, and Women's Choir of UMass Amherst
Also on the program for the concert is the overture from Verdi's opera "La Forza del destino "and "Pines of Rome" by Respighi.

The MassMutual Center is located in Springfield''s Downtown section, minutes from hotels, bus and train stations. Patrons should enter the MassMutual Center at the entrance on the corner of Dwight Street and East Court Street.
Driving Directions:
Traveling North on I-91, take Exit 4 (Springfield Center), onto East Columbus Avenue. Continue up East Columbus Avenue (about ? mile) to Court Street. Take a right onto Court Street and proceed past Symphony Hall, City Hall and Sovereign Bank. The MassMutual Center is located at the corner of Court and Main Street across from Court Square.
Traveling South on I-91, take Exit 7 (Springfield Center Columbus Avenue). Turn left at the light at the end of the ramp. Circle under the highway and go straight through one light. Take a right at the second light onto Main Street. The MassMutual Center is located at 1277 Main Street across from Court Square.
Traveling West on Rt. 90, take Exit 6 off the Mass. Turnpike to Rt. 291. From Rt. 291 take Dwight Street Exit. Turn left at the end of the ramp and follow Dwight Street to the MassMutual Center.
Traveling East on Rt. 90, take Exit 4 onto I-91 South.
