Five College Outdoor Festival
The Five College Outdoor Festival will take place on March 2-4, 2006 at Hampshire and Smith Colleges. The festival's main objective is to expose attendees to professionals and activities associated with outdoor recreation and education. In creating a program of events, we have tried to target people with varying levels of interest from the very casual enthusiasts to the life-long outdoors professional.
This year Mountain Bike World Champion Alison Dunlap will be the featured speaker on Friday March 3rd at 7 pm in Wright Hall at Smith College. Alison is world-renowned cyclist on par with Lance Armstrong, whose accomplishments include international and national championships.
The MountainFilm at Telluride screening will once again anchor the Outdoor Festival March 4 at 7 pm in Hampshire College's Franklin Patterson Hall. MountainFilm is America's premier film tour from the Telluride MountainFilm Festival "that combines adventure, mountaineering, unique personalities and important environmental and social messages."
Alison will also be a guest at a Cycling Training Seminar with Jay Gump on Sat. March 4 at 10 am in the Robert Crown Center at Hampshire College. Incline Training's Jay Gump will conduct 5k and 10k indoor bicycle races on state of the art Computrainers.
On Saturday, March 4, from 9 am. to noon, Nick and Heather Sagar, expert rock climbers, will teach climbing clinics for all levels. No climbing experience is necessary.
A charity climbing competition will be held on Saturday at 1:30 to benefit Western Massachusetts Climbers Coalition and the Access Fund, an
organization, which promotes outdoor recreational opportunities and
lobbies for access to climbing areas. A $5 donation will be collected.
