"Romantico": 13th Annual Massachusetts Multicultural Film Festival 2006
Mark Becker's poignant documentary humanizes the struggles of illegal immigrants who cross the U.S./Mexican border in search of better wages. He follows Carmelo and his friend Arturo from San Francisco where they wash cars by day and sing on the streets for tips at night, to their homes in Mexico where, reunited with their families, their music and sense of humor continues to sustain and uplift them, even as they fight systemic poverty. Nominee, Best Documentary, Independent Spirit Awards. Screened in collaboration with MASS MoCA & the Williams College Jazz Festival.
