Education in South Africa: Teaching With a Global Perspective
Global Horizons and the Center for International Education present two workshops about South Africa.
May 6th - This workshop will cover the broad historical trajectory of the migration of indigenous African people and Europeans into the southern region of Africa. We will focus on the interface of the history, geography and politics of South Africa through the pre-colonial, colonial, Apartheid, and finally into the current democratic era.
May 13th - This workshop will explore the evolution of formal education in South Africa focusing on the role and function of colonial education, education as oppression of Apartheid, education as vehicle for struggle and liberation, and education as a reconciliatory and reconstructive tool of the new democratic South African government.
