“Masjavlar” (“Dalecarlians”)
2004, directed by Maria Blom
The story revolves around three sisters who grew up together in a small village in the province of Dalecarlia. The youngest sister, Mia, who left home at an early age for a big-city life, returns to join the celebration of her father's 70th birthday. Old conflicts are brought to life and the characters' dissatisfaction with their lives becomes more and more apparent. Returning to the part of her life she left behind, the protagonist finds herself caught up once more in a complex of personal and familial problems. Director Maria Blom sculpts an intriguing cast of characters, all with unexpected depths and surprises, and paints a provocative portrait of a family and a community.
