Artists Who Innovate
The Graduate Art Student Association in association with the Lively Arts Program has received funding from the UMass Arts Council to host the internationally renowned authority on avant-garde, postmodern, and contemporary artistic practice Linda Weintraub. She will be spending the day at the University of Massachusetts for a day of studio visits with MFA candidates, followed by a lecture concluding with a question and answer session.
Weintraub is the former director of the Emerging Arts Program at Oberlin College, and is recognized as a leading interpreter and commentator of “cutting edge” new genre art work, conceptual art, performance art, installation, video,
sculpture(including environmental site specific work), photography, and painting. Weintraub is the author of several seminal textbooks in this area, namely Art on the Edge and Over and In the Making. She is currently in the process of completing two new texts, Ecology and the Avant-Garde, and Creating Creativity (both of which she will reference in her lecture).
