Law and the Creation of the Chinese Empire
Professor Michael Loewe of Cambridge University, the world's foremost authority on the early Chinese Empire, will give a public lecture on Chin and Han Law, the structural basis which sustained the long-lived traditional Chinese state, and which still underlies many aspects of present-day China. The lecture is sponsored by the UMass Department of History, the Asian Languages and Literatures program, and the Graduate School.
A reception following at 3 p.m. in Campus Center 1001 will give students and faculty an opportunity to meet informally with Professor Loewe, and to pursue points raised in the lecture. Parking for off-campus visitors is available in the Campus Center Parking Garage.
