Cervantes and/on/in the New World: A Five College Celebration
Using the 400th Anniversary of the Publication of the First Part of Don Quixote, we attempt to establish a fruitful connection between the old world and the new and between the present and the past taking as point of inflection the most classic and canonical of Spanish Writers.
The symposium has three keynote speakers who will address the topic from two different view-points: Professor Diana de Armas Wilson, Professor Ilan Stavans and Professor Thomas Lathrop. The symposium will be subdivided in three main topics:
“Cervantes on the New World,”
“Translating Cervantes into the New World” and
“Cervantes in the New World.”
The symposium will end with a performance by Double Edge Theatre called “The Unposssessed,” a circus-like play inspired by Cervantes and object of study for some of the previous talks.
