Lecture: Shaping a Vision for Instructional Technology
Professor Robbie Moll of the Department of Computer Science will talk about his work developing instructional technology in difficult to teach areas such as writing, computer program design, and proofs in mathematics. He will discuss how the nature of the intended audience can or should affect content and presentation, and he will highlight the distinction between informational content, drill content material, and material requiring a more sophisticated notion of mastery. This seminar is an opportunity to think about an appropriate vision for instructional technology and how such matters are laid out.
This is the second lecture in the "Fourth Thursday: Information Technology Research at the Five Colleges" series, intended to foster new intellectual and interdisciplinary connections and opportunities for IT research for faculty, staff, and students across the Five-College campuses. The sessions are scheduled this spring at Du Bois Library on the UMass Amherst campus, in eager anticipation of the development on the new Learning Commons, which will become the focal point for Information Technology interchange.
