Radical Jewish Project: Yuri Lane

We are thrilled to present the Radical Jewish Culture Conversation Series at UMass Amherst, which seeks to explore the connections between radical and Jewish culture through artistic presentations and discussion. The series features three Jewish artists whose work ranges from themes of the genocide in the former Yugoslavia, to Israeli-Palestinian relations, to understanding the history of secular socialist Jewry in the United States. The Radical Jewish Culture Conversation Series is an opportunity to celebrate Jewish contributions to progressive social and political causes.

Yuri Lane is a human beatbox and vocal magician who presents, From Tel Aviv to Ramallah, a hip travelogue of peace that weaves Palestinian and Israeli voices into a tapestry of the Middle East. Yuri Lane has lived on both sides of the Green Line, discovering the cultural divide between Israelis and Palestinians as well as the numerous commonalities of the two cultures. He brings the Middle East to life and the vision of Jewish-Arab coexistence through the hip-hop medium of beatbox combined with acting and dance.
