An occupational revolution is occurring in China due to a growing consumer
economy. While scarcely in evidence 20 years ago, the service sector now
supplies most of China's new urban jobs. Professor Otis's comparative, ethnographic study of two international luxury hotels in China reveals how the corporate production of consumer masculinities shapes distinct labor regimes that lay the groundwork for contrasting gender dispositions among workers.
