Academics

UMass Amherst offers a vast array of educational opportunities for full and part-time students, both on and off-campus. Interdisciplinary majors, online learning, residence hall study programs, internships, and student exchanges with other colleges and universities in the U.S. and abroad are just a few examples of the UMass Amherst experience.

Undergraduates may choose from among 88 major subject areas in 4-year programs leading to a bachelor’s degree or select one of a half dozen 2-year associate degree programs. Graduate students have an extensive and varied menu of 64 master’s and 50 doctoral programs. A variety of specialized certificate programs are also available at both the graduate and undergraduate level.

In addition, the Five College Interchange program gives UMass Amherst students in good academic standing an opportunity to take courses at Amherst, Hampshire, Smith and Mount Holyoke colleges, without extra tuition or fees, and with free inter-campus bus service.

But that’s not all. Dozens of academic support services are available to help UMass Amherst students adjust to college life and achieve their goals. Knowledgeable and caring support personnel provide assistive technology, career counseling and help with study and writing skills, as well as special services for student athletes, international students and non-traditional learners.
