Student Paperwork and Documentation

If you take a job with UMass Amherst you MUST have the following documents on file before you begin working. You will complete these documents in your hiring department and do not need to re-submit them every term. However, if you claim EXEMPT on your Federal Tax Withholding (W-4), you must update this document every September.

I-9 Form
This federal document requires very specific forms of identification. The most common forms used are:

- a passport

- a driver’s license and a U.S. Social Security card or birth certificate

- an ID card issued by a state or outlying possession of the U.S. and a U.S. Social Security card or birth certificate

You must provide original documents - copies are not acceptable. For complete information on all acceptable documents download the Acceptable I-9 Documents list.
