FERPA Privacy Waiver

If you need your parents, spouse, employer, or anyone else to have access to your financial aid information you will need to complete a FERPA Privacy Waiver.

FERPA (the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) is a federal law protecting the confidentiality of your student records. In compliance with FERPA, UMass Amherst must have your written permission to release information from your records to any third party. You can provide your permission by filling out a FERPA Privacy Wavier online. Completing the waiver will allow whomever you designate to communicate with the university about your bill, financial aid, housing, and UCard funds. You may also edit your FERPA Waiver at any time to change or eliminate your designees.

The FERPA Privacy Waiver is limited to three categories of information: financial, housing, and UCard. It does not allow your designees access to your academic information (such as your grades).

Fill out the FERPA Privacy Waiver through SPIRE as soon as you have a SPIRE logon ID and password. The FERPA Privacy Waiver section of the OIT Web site provides complete information and will lead you through the process.
