Application Deadlines
Undergraduate Students
If you are seeking priority consideration for financial aid at UMass Amherst, Financial Aid Services must receive your completed FAFSA by March 1.
Financial Aid Services accepts the FAFSA form until the last day of classes. However, resources are limited and priority consideration is given for all forms of scholarships, grants, loans, and employment to on-time applicants. If your application is late you will only be considered for Federal Pell Grants, Federal Direct Loans, and certain state scholarships. There is no guarantee of financial aid for late applicants.
If you receive financial aid you will also need to meet ongoing deadlines for completing and returning the promissory notes and verification documents.
Continuing & Professional Education Students
If you are seeking priority consideration for financial aid at UMass Amherst, Financial Aid Services must receive your completed FAFSA by May 1.
Eligibility for financial aid is based on your program, enrolled credits, need and FAFSA information. There is no guarantee of financial aid for late applicants.
Graduate Students
If you are interested in Federal Direct Unsubsidized or Graduate PLUS Loans, you need to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA form is available after January 1 for the upcoming academic year. You should submit the FAFSA by May 1.
The FAFSA may be submitted after May 1 provided that the student is enrolled in classes, but there is no guarantee that students who file after May 1 will be awarded financial aid.
