Administrative Tasks

A School administrator is often forced to make critical decisions about sensitive issues. There are many variables that influence popular opinion, depending on each school's particular situation. Whether your school is large or small, in an urban or a rural setting the information below should aid in modifying your current pest control program into an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program {33}.

The first step in the IPM implementation process is to educate yourself as much as possible about the subject. As an administrator, the faculty, staff, students, and other others will expect you to be knowledgeable about IPM. It is also important to communicate with the person or entity responsible for the pest management practiced in your school  {33}.

The school administrator is required to Appoint an IPM Committee - This committee is the mechanism through which the IPM program can be maintained.

IPM Committee. In successful urban pest management systems, people function effectively as occupants, pest managers, or decision-makers, gaining the information they need, giving the information that others need, cooperating with each other, and meeting their special responsibilities to achieve the unique pest management objectives of the site. These functions and responsibilities are identified below and should be outlined in the school's pest management plan. Once the committee has been formed, it should then work on addressing the various components of its IPM Plan.
