The Nutrition Education
Program promotes healthful eating and safe food handling to Massachusetts
residents and care providers. Our programs reflect the US Dietary
Guidelines by emphasizing the importance of eating a variety of
foods, balancing eating and physical activity, enjoying all foods
in moderation, and handling foods safely.
For limited-income
families with young children, the Expanded Food and
Nutrition Education Program provides a series of sessions focused
on making healthful choices and managing food resources.
For
those receiving or eligible for food stamps, the Family
Nutrition Program provides workshops, displays and resources in
collaboration with schools and community agencies throughout the
state.
For
educators, food workers, growers and regulatory officials,
the Food Safety Education program provides training and
resources on safe food handling from farm to table. Workshops, courses
and multi-language resource materials increase knowledge about food-borne
illness and ways to improve food practices for small food producers,
food workers, regulatory officials, educators and volunteers serving
children, the elderly and other vulnerable groups.
For
educators, care providers, and other independent learners,
the Nutrition and Health Program provides training and resources
on basic nutrition through on-site and distance education workshops,
courses, and conferences.
