Information
As part of the Department of Nutrition within the University
of Massachusetts Amherst School of Public Health and Health Sciences,
NEP extends university research and teaching to Massachusetts communities.
Across Massachusetts, NEP offices serve as focal points for the
design, delivery and evaluation of nutrition programs. They provide
local leadership in areas of needs assessment, community partnerships,
and staff training and development.
 Programs
The Lawrence NEP office offers:

CHOICES: Steps Toward Health. Exciting new program about food,
nutrition and physical activity. Through food-tasting, fun
activities, and conversations (English and/or Spanish), limited
income families explore choices for better health that they
can make in everyday life. Certificate and cookbook awarded
upon completion. Target cities are: Lawrence, Lowell, and Lynn.
- School, after-school, and summer feeding and
recreation site nutrition education.
Currently available only in Lawrence and Lynn. Other cities and
towns having food stamp eligible and/or receiving participants
are eligible to plan future fiscal year programs.
- Technical assistance and information on nutrition,
food, and food safety education available from U Mass Extension.
- Farmers' Market activities (July-Oct)- Lawrence,
Lowell, and Lynn.

Directions
From Boston:
Take Route 93 north to Route 495 north
toward Haverill and Lawrence. Take exit 41B Route 28 exit toward
Lawrence. Turn right go under 495. Take slight left that will
bring you to Route 28 South Broadway. Go through three sets of
lights. Cross Merrimack River bridge at dam. Cross railroad tracks.
Take immediate right just before set of lights. You will see
a mattress store sign. Go down hill past park-Family Service
Building is on the right. We are on the second floor.
