Information
As part of the Department of Nutrition within the University of Massachusetts Amherst School of Public Health and Health Sciences, NEP extends university research and teaching to Massachusetts communities. Across Massachusetts, NEP offices serve as focal points for the design, delivery and evaluation of nutrition programs. They provide local leadership in areas of needs assessment, community partnerships, and staff training and development.

The Brockton NEP office offers nutrition education programs for youth, adult and families in the Greater Brockton Area including parts of Plymouth and Norfolk Counties. Paraprofessional and professional staff collaborate with the Brockton Public Schools, Head Start pre-school programs, after-school programs and shelters to design, develop and teach nutrition lessons to the children, their teachers and parents. Activities include in-classroom lessons, Family Health Nights, single-session workshops, lesson series, displays and distribution of print materials.

Programs
Nutrition education is provided through the Family Nutrition Program (FNP) and the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program. Both programs are federally funded initiatives to provide food, dietary health and nutrition information to individuals and families who are eligible to receive food stamps.
