Allergy Alert on Undeclared Milk Protein in Some Gansito Packages

Fort Worth, Texas (May 14, 2004) - Bimbo Bakeries USA has announced the recall of two package sizes of its Marinela Brand Gansito snack cakes. The recall was initiated because the product contains whey, a milk protein that is not listed on the ingredients label of two package sizes.

Individuals with allergies to milk could run the risk of a serious reaction if they consume this product.

How to identify the recalled product:

The products covered by the recall includes all lots of Marinela brand Gansito snack cakes in the two count and the 10 count packages sold in the eastern and central portions of the United States at retail outlets, including Latin American specialty food stores.

Bimbo representatives and retailers re removing products with the affected packaging from store shelves.  "We regret any inconvenience this will cause our customers,"said  spokesperson for the company.Consumers who have a milk sensitivity or allergy who have purchased either the two or 10-count package with the undeclared whey ingredient can receive a refund by contacting the company at (877) 224-7374. Consumer questions should be directed to the same telephone number.
