Mother's Kitchen Has Recalled Certain Cheesecake Variety Packs Burlington,
NJ (SafetyAlerts) - The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said
that Mother's Kitchen, Inc. has recalled all of its 50-oz. variety
pack cheesecakes bearing UPC code 24916-98686 AND code date 02331
because those variety packs may contain undeclared almonds. People
who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds or nuts run
the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they
consume these products.
The recalled 50-oz. variety pack cheesecakes
were distributed in the eastern half of the United States in retail
stores. The product comes in a 50-oz. cardboard box. The boxes in
question are marked with UPC code 24916-98686 appearing below the
barcode and have the code date 02331 embossed on the same panel.
The boxes have a brown banner in the upper left corner that reads
"Restaurant Quality" and has a picture of three flavors
of cheesecake (Classic, Fudge Swirl, and Strawberry Swirl). This
box does not indicate that the product contains almonds. Some boxes
may actually contain a fourth flavor of cheesecakes (Almond Amaretto
cheesecake) that is topped with sliced almonds.
No injuries or illnesses have been reported
to date.
The recall was initiated after Mother's
Kitchen learned that some of its 4-flavor variety pack cheesecakes
were inadvertently shipped in boxes that did not reveal the presence
of almonds. Subsequent investigation indicates that the problem
was caused by a packaging malfunction. The problem is limited to
the boxes described above.
Customers who have purchased 50-oz. variety
pack cheesecakes packed in the boxes in question are urged to return
them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Customers with
questions may contact the company at (800) 566-8437, ext. 54.
