Heirloom Tomato Benefits
MAC’s President, James Munger will once again raise heirloom tomatoes to be sold to support MAC. He will pot up plants and make them available to those who wish to sell the tomatoes at their farm or school. The remainder of these tomatoes will be available at the Tower Hill Botanic Garden Plant Sale on Saturday, June 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Heirloom Tomato List
Jim Munger is growing the following tomatoes and they are available for you to sell as a fund-raiser to MAC on a first come--first serve basis. Send Jim an e-mail, by clicking here to place an order. let him know when you would like to pick them up.
- Amish Paste: A paste-type fruit with an oblong oxheart shape. Eight ounce tomatoes with good sweet flavor.
- Boxcart Willie: This variety gives a very heavy crop of good sized smooth red tomatoes, delicious flavor; from 6-10 ounces.
- Brandywine Black: A prolific yielder with novel black fruits that are well formed ovals with real tomato taste.
- Brandywine Yellow OG: Large, yellow fruit that weighs twelve ounces to two pounds. Exceptional quality as well as creamy texture.
- Cherokee Purple: Originally grown by the Cherokee Indians. Relatively disease free with a pink-purple flesh; sweet, smoky flavor, grows up to ten-twelve ounces.
- Ciudad Victoria OG: Bolsters the fruity wildness of currants with some solid tomato tastes, sweet with acidity and richness.
- Gardener's Delight Cherry: 68 days; also known as Sugar Lump. Fruits taste so good that cracking is overlooked.
- Green Zebra OG: Rich and sweet taste balanced by a salty tang; green and white stripes; three to six ounces; vigorous determinate vines.
- Large Red: Classic bright red tomato, medium in size. A good all round cooking and eating tomato.
- Lillian’s Yellow Heirloom: Late, but worth waiting for. Creamy consistency; meaty flesh and complex of rich deep flavors. Average one pound.
- Livingston’s Beauty: Developed by Alexander Livingston of the Livingston Seed Company. A pink, medium oblate fruit with good flavor.
- Nebraska Wedding: Produces huge globe-shaped fruits of deep orange color. Various plants yield heavy concentrated set of fruit.
- Mr. Stripey (Tigrella): The beautiful red fruit of this variety has stripes in green and yellow hues. Tangy and tart favorite.
- Orange Banana Paste: 85 days; paste tomato, makes excellent sauces; 3-4 inches long.
- Paul Robeson: A highly regarded Russian black tomato. Medium size fruits, usually free of blemishes and cracking.
- Pruden’s Purple: Potato leafed variety produces large fruit that weighs up to one pound; is dark pink/purple in color and matures in 75 days.
- Red Lightning: Brilliant red tomato; 2 ½ to 3 inch fruits covered with yellow stripes. Sweet, tangy flavors and rich aroma.
- Striped German: 78 days; bicolor red and yellow fruit complex fruity flavor and smooth texture.
- White Queen: 85 days; the nicest shape and whitest color of any of the white varieties. Tangy and sweet with well balanced flavor
- Yellow Pear: Vigorous, small pear-shaped tomato with yellow skin. Mild, sweet flavor, great in salads and preserves.
