 – Constance

2:35pm - Read the case out loud (pages 1-3) – each person reads a paragraph in a circle

2:45pm – Allow a few clarifying questions, if necessary about the case.  Form two groups to meet and discuss the “facts” in the case.  Give the groups their assignment (Practice Decision Case).  Send them off to work.

3:45pm – Start to “round-up” the groups and bring them back.

4:00pm – Allow further clarifying questions about the decision.  Groups may interview John but should not yet state their own opinion about the decision.  Constance facilitates masterfully this session.

4:30pm - Ask each group to meet again determine if there is a consensus among group members regarding what John should do.  If a consensus can’t be formed, take a vote and record the tally.  They MUST make a decision.  No decision - is a decision.

5:00pm - Report back to the entire class on the results.  Is there class consensus?

5:45pm – Break for dinner.

7:00pm – John & Constance co-facilitate - Meet to reflect on the Decision Case as a learning tool.  Distribute the Teaching Note.  Did the decision case serve the learning objectives (see Teaching Note)?  During this discussion, consider how the Holisticgoal and answers to the Holistic Management Testing Questions influenced the decision. What additional information might have been useful to the decision case package?  Discuss the use of decision cases as a teaching tool for Holistic Management.  Did the case meet the suggested guidelines for a “good case”?  That is – a good case…

·     Is relevant to the reader

·     Has pedagogic utility (useful for some learning purpose)

·     Is conflict provoking

·     Is decision forcing

·     Has generality

·     Is short

8:00pm – Form two groups to practice teaching with one of the five Decision Cases provided.  Give the groups their instructions (Teaching Suggestions).  Encourage each group to assign tasks before going to bed.  Participants should be thoroughly familiar with the decision-case before they meet in the morning.
