Built: 1907 Clark Hall was built for science, teaching, and research, particularly Botany. Studio Art now occupies the upper level. Third president (1867-79), leader in obtaining a college charter, member of the state Board of Agriculture (1859), member of the House of Representatives (1864), graduate of Amherst College and teacher there of Chemistory, Botany, and Zoology, a founder of Hokkaido University, William Clark served the public extrordinarily and his scientific research produced useful studies in the flow of sap in sugar maples, and at one time he grew a giant squash whose growth force gave enough power to lift 5,000 pounds. |
