Liane Brandon - Co-Director

Liane Brandon is a Professor of Education at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and the Co-director of UMass Educational Television. She is also an award-winning independent filmmaker and a founding member of New Day Films, the nationally known cooperative that has pioneered in the distribution of films about women and social change. Her films include: Betty Tells Her Story, Anything You Want To Be, Once Upon A Choice and How To Prevent A Nuclear War, and have been featured on Home Box Office, The Learning Channel, USA Cable and Cinemax. They have twice received Blue Ribbons at the American Film Festival and numerous other awards. She has served as a juror for the Emmy Awards, the student Academy Awards and as an education consultant for WGBH-TV. She is the recipient of the Boston Society of Film Critics Award and the Distinguished Alumni Award from Boston University. She has been actively involved with the rights of media artists, and her lawsuit (Brandon v. The Regents of the University of California) won a land-mark victory for filmmakers' protection of their titles. Before becoming a filmmaker, Liane experimented with several short careers, working as a ski instructor, file clerk, high school teacher and professional stunt woman.

John Carey - Co-Director

John Carey is the Associate Dean of the School of Education at the University Massachusetts and Co-director of UMass Educational Television. Carey teaches in the Department of Student Development and Pupil Personnel Services' School Psychology program. He has research interests in how children develop interpersonal understanding and social competence. Carey was awarded Ph.D. degrees at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and at the University of Wyoming. He is the author of numerous research articles and is coeditor of Multicultural Counseling in Schools. John Carey is also a student of the fiddle and a traditional music enthusiast.

 

Scott Perry

Scott Perry served as the Coordinator of UMass Educational Television as well as the Associate Director/Senior Producer from 1994 to 2003.

Scott joined UMET during its formative years while earning his Master's Degree at the University and eventually became the Associate Director and Senior Producer of the project. In addition to managing the day to day operations and directing the shooting and editing of UMET productions, Scott used his experience to train university student interns in all areas of video production. Before joining UMET, Scott was the President of UVC-TV19, the University's undergraduate television station and training facility. He is also freelance videographer and production instructor. Scott is currently living in Chicago and works in the field of production.
