Upon completion of your associate degree through the MassTransfer program, you may be entitled to the following benefits:
As a MassTransfer student, you may be guaranteed admission into linked or mapped bachelor’s degrees. Many programs look for final GPA of 2.5 or higher at the community college, but some majors are selective and require a specific GPA or pre-requisite courses.*
60 Transfer Credits and Junior Status
We will accept at least 60 semester transfer credits. This means you will be transferring to UMass Amherst as a junior!
MassTransfer Tuition Credit
For full-time students, the MassTransfer Tuition Credit is a financial award of $1,714 per-year ($857 per semester). Part-time students receive a reduced amount, because they are charged by course credit hours taken. That amount will be determined after you have registered for your classes.
To be eligible for the MassTransfer Tuition Credit you must graduate from a MassTransfer associate degree program with a 3.0 or higher GPA and enroll at UMass Amherst as a degree-seeking student within one year of completing your associate degree. Students who have started taking classes at another four-year college as an enrolled student after completing an associate degree are not eligible for the MassTransfer tuition credit.
The tuition credit is guaranteed only for your first two semesters at UMass Amherst. To receive it for a second year, you must earn a GPA of 3.0+ during your first year at UMass Amherst. It is given for a maximum of four consecutive semesters. You apply one tuition credit per semester to your bill. The Bursar’s Office will choose the one that will benefit you most.
As part of the MassTransfer Application, you can apply for a scholarship!
Students participating in Commonwealth Commitment that complete a mapped pathway, are not in dual-enrollment, and transfer into a mapped bachelor’s degree program are given a freeze on mandatory tuition and fees at UMass, as well as a 10% rebate for each semester completed a 3.0+ GPA.
Priority Course Registration
The first day of the transfer New Students Orientation is reserved for MassTransfer students, which means you get to choose your courses before other new transfer students.
*Students must be in good academic, financial, and disciplinary standing at all colleges attended to be guaranteed admission. Additionally, criminal histories may also be considered as part of the review process.
