Isabella Kirkland, Canopy, 2011

Isabella Kirkland works with issues of biodiversity and the natural world, and her detailed oil paintings and drawings of the rainforest, which look as though they have been lifted out of an encyclopedia, are a key part of her practice. She has been engaged not only in various art institutions but in science centers as well, having worked as a research assistant at the California Academy of Sciences and a science advisor at the Long Now Foundation in San Francisco.
