The UMass Police Department (UMPD) offers a wealth of services and resources for the campus community. The UMPD encourages a proactive approach to safety, through outreach, trainings and more.

 If you witness or experience any suspicious or unusual behavior, a hazardous situation or a suspected crime, report it! UMPD's Report It page includes information on emergency and general calls, the anonymous TIPS phone line and online tip and witness forms. 

Enhance your own sense of safety by taking part in a class or program. The Rape Aggression Defense course, free for all women on campus, teaches easy, effective self-defense skills. The Project Protect initiative lets you register valuables like cell phones, tablets and laptops, increasing the chances of recovering lost or stolen property; the “Like it – Lock it – Keep it” program has important tips for preventing theft. Sign up for the UMass Amherst Alerts system to get important safety information sent to your cell phone. Avoid walking alone at night with the UMPD’s free walking escort service. And, join in keeping the campus safer for all by taking part in the annual Walk for Light event. Students, faculty and staff spread out across campus and identify any safety concerns they see along the way.

University Health Services (UHS) provides comprehensive health and wellness services for the UMass Amherst community, with a special focus on the needs and concerns of college students. UHS is not a hospital and does not have an emergency department; in a life-threatening emergency, call 911.

UHS provides general medical care by appointment and on a walk-in basis; visit the UHS website for operating hours and important information. The Triage Advice Nurse is available during business hours to answer general questions and direct callers to the best course of care; after-hours advice is available by calling UHS’ main number.

UHS also offers a wide range of services, including, immunizations, diagnostic imaging and laboratory, pharmacy, eye care and optical services, eating disorder evaluation and treatment, nutrition counseling, allergy clinic, travel medicine, sexual health services, sports medicine, pediatrics, acupuncture and more.
 

Dean of Students Office

The Dean of Students Office responds to individual student needs and concerns, providing the support, resources and referrals they may need to succeed at UMass Amherst.

The office oversees and enforces policies key to the campus culture of civility and respect, including the Code of Student Conduct, alcohol and other drug policies and the academic honesty policy. Other resources include an emergency loan program, the Off Campus Student Life and Veteran Services offices, and assistance with withdrawals from, and readmission to, the university.
 

Center for Counseling and Psychological Health

The Center for Counseling and Psychological Health (CCPH) offers crisis intervention services, short-term individual, couples’ and group therapy, behavioral medicine, psychiatric medication consultation and treatment.

Office hours are weekdays, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.; crisis intervention services are available 24/7. In a life-threatening emergency, always call 911.

The CCPH's consultation and education services include free suicide prevention trainings for the campus community. Ideal for those who interact directly with students, the program helps participants recognize suicide warning signs and provides the skills needed to help at-risk students.

EO monitors and oversees the university’s Grievance Policy and Procedures and the Sexual Harassment Policy and Procedures. The EO office also oversees UMass Amherst’s Title IX efforts and facilitates the Title IX Coordination Team, which works to prevent sexual harassment and sexual violence.

Additionally, the team ensures that Title IX education and training is provided on campus. Disability Services empowers people with disabilities in their full integration into campus life and oversees compliance with The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a clear and comprehensive national mandate for the elimination of discrimination against individuals with disabilities. The Office of Religious and Spiritual Life offers educational programs, advocacy, dialogue and other activities which foster an informed, caring and supportive community for those of all backgrounds and beliefs.

Interfaith programs and services include the annual Freedom Seder, a celebration of unity and liberation; a nondenominational meditation group open to the campus community; community service initiatives; the annual “Festival of Light” holiday poster program; and the UMass Interfaith Alliance, a social group which connects on Facebook.
 

Ombuds Office

The Ombuds Office offers a variety of conflict resolution services to students including communication coaching, facilitated conversations, shuttle negotiation, and informal mediation. The Ombuds can help students understand university policies, procedures, and resources and weigh their options before deciding on a course of action.
 

Stonewall Center

The Stonewall Center provides support, advocacy and programming for lesbian, gay, transgender, queer/questioning (LGBTQ) and allied students, faculty and staff at UMass Amherst and in the Pioneer Valley.

Programs and services work to create a more inclusive, welcoming environment for all. These include ally trainings, HIV and sexually transmitted disease testing, posters and educational materials, the Queer-e newsletter, a lending library and speakers’ bureau. The Stonewall Center offers resource guides, information on gender-inclusive facilities on-campus and in the community, and sponsors student social groups and residential options.
 

Center for Multicultural Advancement and Student Success

The Center for Multicultural Advancement and Student Success (CMASS) provides cultural enrichment, academic support, student development and support for institutional diversity. In addition to its main office in Wilder Hall, CMASS sponsors four cultural enrichment centers across campus, each with a specific focus.

Services include mentoring, workshops, advocacy, scholarship and internship opportunities, graduate school preparation and career development. Students are encouraged to complete CMASS’ online affiliation form to help them access the widest range of resources; visit the website’s home page for instructions and links.

Psychological Services Center

The PSC is a full-service mental health clinic open to UMass students, staff and faculty as well as members of the community. The PSC provides adult and child therapy; individual, couples and group therapy; and assessment services including learning disabilities testing, ADHD assessment and school admission testing.
