UMass grads
its your network too
Got a good UMass degree but
a job that lacks pizzazz? The Campus Career Networks services arent
limited to current students alumni, too, are encouraged to come
back for assistance. (The network is also available to non-alums, but
for a fee). After all, says director Joan Stoia, life evolves.
Karen Knight, associate director
at CCN, is the career advisor for alumni, available for phone and e-mail
consultations, workshops on career management, individual appointments
both here and in Boston, and a long list of job-related services
networking assistance, resume revision, interviewing search strategies,
and career assessments.
If youre the type who
likes to do research up front, the network is making it simpler: For those
within driving distance of UMass, career materials will soon be housed
in the Du Bois Library in case, as Stoia says, you decide you want
to hunt for a career at ten at night. And the networks Web
site includes such tips as this one for reworking a resume: Use
jargon from your field that will catch a 10-second scan by a screening
person.
Finally, a 52-page Alumni
Career Search Guide written by Knight includes the above information
and more, including advice on using the Internet for job searches, learning
the growth markets, and finding smaller companies. The Career Networks
website is www-ccn.acad.umass.edu/index.htm, and Knight can be reached
at kdk@acad.umass.edu or 413.545.0742.
