SON has set a financial goal of $5 million for its
part in the next Campaign UMass. The large-scale drive will be a first
for the school, but SON has unique advantages, says development director
Paula Sakey '88. Nursing students are more likely than most to stay with
their entering class through graduation"Our graduates know
each other," she saysafter which they enter a tightly bonded
profession of people who, by definition, care.
The prospect of a new
building, scheduled for construction with state funds in 2004, is another
plus. But most important of all, says Sakey, is "what goes in the
building. Our people and programs. Building a strong foundation of student
support, faculty support, technology and curriculum enhancement, innovation
and infrastructure flexible funds for the dean to respond to changes
in how we educate nurses for leadership roles in a very dynamic health-care
environment."
