Dawn till Dusk

Seth Jackson and Jonathan Shina

An impromptu rehearsal on Orchard Hill by Seth Jackson '03 and Jonathan Shina '04 is just one scene captured by our band of roving photographers on October 3. Therese Frare, Thom Kendall '93, Terri Gauthier '84, Mike Aldrich '01 and Ben Barnhart spent the day documenting life at UMass.

Tuesday, October 3, 2000: A day much like any other at UMass except that it was recorded on film. We asked five photographers to go behind the scenes to document the daily routine of campus life. What they found — from the first glint of sun on the bricks of the W.E.B. Du Bois Library until the last PVTA bus was shut down for the evening — is a community alive with teaching and learning, work and play. A portfolio of these images was included in the UMass Time Capsule 2000 interred under the Old Chapel during homecoming weekend. We want to give our descendants a glimpse of life at UMass at the beginning of the new millennium
