Physical Therapy FAQs

UHS Physical Therapy

How do I make an appointment?

Call (413) 577-5158, weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Do I need a referral?

A referral from your medical provider is required when you come in for your evaluation.

Is PT covered by insurance?

The Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) covers physical therapy on the same basis as other outpatient services.

We also accept Health New England, Harvard Pilgrim and Commonwealth Indemnity insurance plans. Each carrier has its own requirements; speak with our office or contact your insurance company for more information.

How often will I need PT?

It depends on your individual situation. At your first visit, your therapist will evaluate your needs and create a treatment plan. Following the plan is important for you to achieve the greatest benefit.

Is PT painful?

Sometimes it can be. During range-of-motion or strength testing, you may feel uncomfortable; repeating certain motions during treatment may also cause discomfort. Remember, you and your therapist are partners in your recovery. If your pain seems excessive, talk your therapist.
