J. Cherry Sullivan, M.P.H.
Interim Assistant Director, Center for Health Promotion

Cherry, a former graduate student assistant for the Center for Health Promotion, has rejoined CHP as its interim assistant director.
Cherry is a M.P.H. graduate of UMass Amherst’s School of Public Health, with a concentration in Community Health Education. Her work in college health includes coordinating UMass Amherst's Women’s Health Project and performing with the CHP's Not Ready for Bedtime Players summer troupe; serving as a health educator at Brown University; and supervising the In Touch Sexual Health Educators at Mt. Holyoke College.
Prior to rejoining CHP, Cherry was the director of wellness at a community-based mental health organization. Here she gained experience and expertise in grantwriting and was responsible for building a public health approach within a traditional mental health setting. During this time, she co-authored a case study published by the international peer-reviewed journal Translational Behavioral Medicine: Practice, Policy, Research and was a featured speaker on health and wellness topics at professional conferences.
Cherry currently volunteers for the Western Massachusetts Abortion Fund and serves on the board of the Center for Excellence in Diabetes Education at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton. When she's not thinking about logic models or assessment planning, you’ll find her exploring the Pioneer Valley on bike or hiking many of the areas trails. She plays softball, basketball and soccer, and participates in the Florence Community Band. When she finds the time to sit still long enough, she enjoys rumikub, book club and watching documentary movies.
