Meet Our Providers
Frederick H. Bloom, O.D.
As Director of UHS’ Eye Care Services, Dr. Bloom has been caring for members of the Five College community for more than 35 years.
He is credentialed in diagnostic and therapeutic ocular pharmaceuticals by the Massachusetts Board of Optometry, and has significant experience in all aspects of contact lens fitting and care.
Dr. Bloom is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts and the New England College of Optometry; as a member of that school’s teaching faculty, he has lectured and supervised fourth-year student clinicians.
His hobbies include magic and cooking, and he has taken classes at the Culinary Institute of America. Dr. Bloom is the father of two wonderful sons.
Donna Sims, R.D.O.
Donna was valedictorian of the first class to train future opticians in Ophthalmic Technology at Holyoke Community College and has dispensed eyeglasses in the Pioneer Valley for more than a decade.
Her depth of knowledge, familiarity with modern eyeglass technology and strong fashion sense combine to provide her clients great vision and great looks.
Barbara J. Miner, R.D.O.
Barbara, a board-certified dispensing optician, joined UHS in 2010, bringing with her more than 20 years' experience from all facets of the optical industry, from eyeglass fabrication through ophthalmology. In that time she has been providing the latest in eyecare technologies from Cape Cod to the Pioneer Valley.
She is a graduate of the Lahey Clinic's Ophthalmic Medical Assistant Program for Opticians; attended Holyoke Community College's Ophthalmic Technology program; and has studied pre-med and psychology at UMass Amherst.
Barbara enjoys scuba diving, technology and living in the country with her husband and kids.
