What We Offer

Individual therapy

One-on-one meetings with a therapist give you the opportunity to discuss your individual concerns. Individual therapy is usually short-term and includes crisis intervention services.

Couples and family therapy

Sessions for partners and family members offer a supportive environment to work on relationship issues.

Group therapy

Therapy groups bring people with similar concerns together with professional therapists, and offer a broad range of insight and support. Group offerings vary by semester; check out the current schedule.

Mental Health Services is also part of the Five College Group Psychotherapy Consortium, giving students at UMass Amherst, Smith College, Hampshire College, Smith College and Mount Holyoke College access to groups on any of the campuses.

Behavioral medicine

Programs include stress management, relaxation and biofeedback, a technique which can help you manage your body’s reactions; our experts also staff UHS’ mind/body medicine clinic.

Medication management

Medications may be part of your treatment plan. Our staff includes board-certified psychiatrists and a psychiatric clinical nurse specialist who can prescribe medications and monitor their use.

Eating disorders clinic

This program brings together nutritionists, medical and mental health providers to assess and care for those with anorexia, bulimia and other eating disorders. Residence hall workshops and group therapy sessions also address eating and body image issues.

Consultation and education

Want to know more about a mental health issue? Call us! Our professional staff is available for consultations and educational programs, on- and off-campus.

Internships

Several psychology and social work internships are available each year.
